Skin Cancer Awareness Month

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month.   Please use this little reminder to remember to do your monthly self skin exams and to set up your yearly skin cancer screenings with me or your dermatologist.   As you all know, melanomas and other skin cancers are on the rise.  The chances are that you know someone or that you will know someone that will have a skin cancer.  My goal is to make sure that it is not you...or that if it is you, we catch it so early that you will have a 100% cure rate with the removal.

As you all know, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure so please practice good sun protection measures.  Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with a physical sun blocking ingredient such as zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide.  Wear sun protective clothing and hats.  Try to avoid intense sun exposure especially during the hours of 10-4.  Do your monthly self exams.  If you find a mole or spot that you are concerned about go see your dermatologist.
